Doing it for Dad <3
Sunday 23rd AugEarlier this year, my family received news that changed our lives overnight.
My dad was preparing to undergo heart surgery when he mentioned to his cardiologist that he had been experiencing headaches, moments of confusion and forgetfulness. Thankfully, his cardiologist decided something didn’t sound right and organised a CT scan before the procedure.
The scan found a golf ball-sized tumour in the back of his brain.
Dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Nothing prepares you for news like that.
Before this happened, I knew cancer affected millions of people and families, but I don’t think you can truly understand the impact until it walks through your own front door.
The fear. The uncertainty. The appointments and treatment. Time away from work. Financial pressure. And, hardest of all, watching someone you love go through something they never asked for.
Our family has been fortunate enough to support Dad through this journey, but many families facing cancer don’t have the same support or financial security.
That’s why I created Doing It For Dad.
This fundraiser isn’t about raising money for my dad. It’s about using his story to help other people and families affected by cancer.
And I’m going to do that the best way I know how.
By running, riding, racing, competing, hosting events and continually challenging myself to do hard things for a purpose much bigger than me.
I’ve completed my first marathon.
I’ve ridden 100km from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.
Next is the Noosa Triathlon, followed by HYROX, with plenty more challenges to come.
Every finish line has a purpose.

I can’t change what has happened to my dad.
But I can choose what I do with it.
And if our family’s hardest chapter can help make someone else’s a little easier, then I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.
