Vicki Howard lived on a cattle property near Biloela in Central Queensland where she spent her life caring for other people.
She baked cakes for nurses at the local retirement home and filled people’s freezers with home-cooked meals. She took in animals no one wanted: poddy calves, chooks from battery farms and deeply suspicious feral cats. But her most treasured role was grandmother - or Polly - to her growing brood of grandkids for whom she created imaginary worlds full of dinosaurs and magic.
She was diagnosed with Glioblastoma on May 3 this year and lost her battle on May 25. Her family is raising money for research that can improve survival rates for the sufferers who come after her.
